New Sense of Purpose imagines an ancient sculpture finding an unexpected second life as a flower pot. Rooted in the past, it becomes a home for something living, holding history and new growth together in a single form.
Like Resilience, this painting considers what endures. Here, endurance also makes room for change: the sculpture’s past remains part of it, even as it takes on a new purpose. There is something hopeful, and quietly funny, about an ancient figure taking up gardening.
It is a reflection on how we can carry our histories while making room for life to grow.
New Sense of Purpose is a one-of-a-kind original painting, hand-painted in water-mixable oil on gallery-wrapped canvas. Measuring 36 × 36 inches, it depicts a pale sculptural bust crowned with green leaves against a textured blue background.
